MacBook Pro Price Guide 2026: Every Model and Price

by Ray Harji 07 Oct 2026

Quick answer

A used MacBook Pro costs about $700 to $1,000 for a 14-inch M1 Pro in October 2026, $1,100 to $1,500 for a 16-inch M1 Max, $1,700 to $2,100 for an M2 Max, $1,900 to $2,500 for an M3 Max, and $2,300 to $3,200 for an M4 Max. New, after Apple's June 25, 2026 price increase, the MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 (14-inch M5, 1TB), $2,499 (14-inch M5 Pro) and $4,099 (14-inch M5 Max). That price jump is why a used M4 Max is now the smart buy for most pros.

How we priced this: on October 6, 2026 we checked Apple Certified Refurbished, Back Market, Amazon Renewed, Mac of All Trades and eBay listings. These are the lowest asking prices we found for a working unit; the cheapest are often "Fair" condition with heavy wear or a tired battery. Expect to pay more for Excellent condition, a healthy battery and a warranty.

Apple has none of the older ones. On October 6, 2026, Apple's Certified Refurbished store listed no M1, M2 or M3 MacBook Pros at all. If you want one of the best-value models, you have to buy from an independent refurbisher.

What MacBook Pros actually sold for at MacPro-LA

Here is what customers really paid us, on average, after discounts and returns, over the last 12 months (October 2025 to October 2026):

Chip 14-inch: units · average price paid 16-inch: units · average price paid
M1 Pro 54 · $1,035 80 · $1,081
M1 Max 20 · $1,776 64 · $1,912
M2 Pro 11 · $1,195 31 · $1,643
M2 Max 61 · $2,376 78 · $2,572
M3 Pro 28 · $1,750 30 · $1,957
M3 Max 15 · $2,400 102 · $3,324
M4 Pro 67 · $1,891 61 · $2,466
M4 Max 17 · $2,977 88 · $3,979

Three things stand out. The 16-inch Max models are where the money goes: the 16-inch M3 Max and M4 Max were our two biggest sellers by revenue. The 14-inch M1 Pro is the best-selling budget pro laptop at around $1,000. And buyers who need power are skipping new M5 Max prices for a used M4 Max or M3 Max.

Which used MacBook Pro should you buy in 2026?

  • Students, coding, office, photo editing: 14-inch M1 Pro or M2 Pro with 16GB. Around $700–$1,200 and still fast.
  • Video editors, music producers, designers: 16-inch M1 Max or M2 Max with 32GB–64GB. Big screen, huge battery life, $1,100–$2,600.
  • Heavy 4K/8K video, 3D, local AI: M3 Max or M4 Max with 48GB or more. A used 16-inch M4 Max saves well over $1,000 against a new M5 Max.
  • Want the newest: an M5 Pro or M5 Max, ideally Apple refurbished or open box to soften the 2026 price increase.

Memory (RAM) cannot be upgraded after purchase, so buy for the memory you will need in three years, not today.

Why MacBook Pro prices went up in 2026

On June 25, 2026, Apple raised prices across its Mac and iPad lineup for the first time mid-generation, blaming a shortage of memory chips driven by AI demand. The 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro went from $1,799 to $1,999, the M5 Pro from $2,199 to $2,499, and the M5 Max from $3,599 to $4,099. Higher new prices lifted used values: recent used MacBook Pros now sell only slightly below their original launch price, and Apple's own refurbished store is thin.

What moves the price of a used MacBook Pro

  1. Chip tier: base, Pro or Max. A Max roughly doubles the GPU and adds hundreds of dollars.
  2. Screen size: the 16-inch usually costs $300–$600 more than the same 14-inch.
  3. Memory and storage: 32GB+ and 1TB+ hold value best.
  4. Battery health: the biggest condition factor on a laptop. Under 300 cycles and over 90% health commands top dollar.
  5. Condition: screen coating wear, dents and keyboard shine all lower the price. Open-box units command a premium.

How to check a used MacBook Pro before you buy

  • Battery: System Settings → Battery → Battery Health. Check the maximum capacity and cycle count.
  • Display: look for dead pixels, pressure marks and anti-reflective coating wear.
  • Keyboard and trackpad: test every key and the full trackpad surface.
  • Ports, camera, speakers and microphones.
  • Activation Lock and MDM: it must be signed out of the previous owner's iCloud and free of any company management profile.
  • Exact configuration: Apple menu → About This Mac. Confirm the chip, memory and storage match the listing.
  • Warranty: buy with at least a 1-year warranty. Every MacBook Pro we sell has one, tested by Certified Apple Technicians.
